"Synchronicity is an ever present reality for those who have eyes to see […] there is a synchrony between the mind and the phenomenal world of perception” - Carl Jung The studio will explore the dimension of the urban space from different scales, in a hot spot of the city of Barcelona, Plaça de les Glòries, where infrastructure and public space have stopped working in accordance, and therefore they now seem to compete.
When talking about infrastructure, there is a notable shift in scale, but definitely as a result of a greater change in time. Velocity becomes prescriptive in how we perceive space, and therefore Time Scale becomes a fundamental criterion for planning the city. Time is a valuable source of information to create infrastructure, and therefore it shapes the form of the city.
The studio will be looking at time information, in order to work the city at different time scales. Velocity will bring the layer of time onto space, which may occur at a relatively small scale to leap to a larger time effect. For instance, if we look at the simple principle of Moiré, only by the way we superimpose two layers of different geometrical patterns, we can embed time, and therefore gain velocity. The studio will be working on geometry, light, colour or material, to enhance the spectrum of space perception in time.
It can be a matter of synchronizing different velocities, the Infrastructure and the City; if they really are not yet the same. Probably it is just a matter of making it evident.
